Debunking the Myth of Anabolics and Baby Gender
One of the strangest myths floating around in bodybuilding circles is this:
“Bhai, anabolic steroids users mostly have girl children.”
“Testosterone lene ke baad ladka nahi hota, sirf ladki hoti hai.”
Sounds wild, right?
Let’s break this down scientifically and see if there’s any truth behind this belief — or if it’s just another bro-science myth.
🧬 Who Decides the Baby’s Gender?
First, let’s understand the biology:
-
A woman’s egg always carries an X chromosome.
-
A man’s sperm can carry either:
-
X chromosome → Girl (XX)
-
Y chromosome → Boy (XY)
-
So it’s the male sperm that determines the gender — not the female, and not any supplement or drug she takes.
❓ Do Anabolic Steroids Change the Sperm Type?
No.
When someone uses anabolic steroids, here’s what really happens:
-
Natural testosterone production drops
-
LH & FSH (which drive sperm production) crash
-
Testes shrink
-
Sperm count reduces
-
Fertility drops — sometimes to zero
BUT… there’s no scientific evidence that says anabolic steroids reduce the number of Y-carrying sperm or favor X-carrying sperm.
Steroids affect how much sperm you produce — not which type.
💡 So Why Do People Think Steroids Lead to Girls?
It’s just pattern bias or coincidence.
Here’s why the myth might have started:
-
A few bodybuilders or enhanced athletes had daughters
-
Their peers noticed and said: “Steroid lene walon ke ladki hi hoti hai”
-
The idea spread — but without any science behind it
This is how bro-science myths are born.
✅ What Factors Actually Affect the Baby’s Gender?
Though still mostly random (50/50), some factors may slightly tilt odds:
-
Timing of intercourse (closer to ovulation may favor Y-sperm)
-
Body pH & cervical environment
-
Sperm motility & count
-
Genetic randomness
But none of this is linked directly to anabolic steroid use.
🚫 So, Is There Any Way Steroids Decide a Child’s Sex?
No.
Steroids may:
-
Kill your fertility
-
Lower sperm quality
-
Cause testicular shrinkage
But they don’t influence whether your sperm makes a boy or a girl.
The X and Y sperm ratio stays roughly the same in most healthy men, even on cycle — until fertility drops too low to matter.
🧠 Final Word: Don’t Fall for Myths
Taking steroids does a lot of things to your hormones.
But it does not decide the gender of your future child.
If you or your partner are planning to conceive — especially after cycles — it’s better to:
-
Come off gear
-
Do fertility bloodwork (LH, FSH, semen analysis)
-
Consider HCG or PCT protocols
